As one of South Africa's Oldest retail stores, OK Furniture began as OK Bazaar in 1927 by partners Michael Miller and Sam Cohen, and is still in existence to this today. Now owned by Shoprite Holdings Ltd, Africa’s largest supermarket retailer, OK Furniture is one of South Africa’s most trusted brand names and rapidly became a booming success upon opening its doors many years ago. Their main focus is furniture and household accessories, but OK Furniture offers far more than just furniture, and includes products like outdoor tools and generators, electrical equipment, batteries, cellphones and cellular accessories, audio-visual accessories, and much more. They proudly operate almost 400 branches across seven countries and cater to middle-income communities that are seeking affordable and quality items for their homes.
The Long History of OK Furniture
Founded in 1927 by business partners Michael Miller and Sam Cohen, and together they opened the first OK Bazaars. Becoming an almost instant success, the company has been expanding ever since. Growing now to include over 100 across South Africa, their humble beginnings started on the corner of President and Eloff street in Johannesburg, where the first shop opened its doors.
In 1967, more than 100 OK Bazaars stores opened throughout South Africa and in 1996 - OK Group serperated into various business segments, with a stand-alone furniture brand created called OK Furniture. 2018, OK Furniture was voted top Furniture Retailer at the Ask Afrika Icon Awards by SA shoppers. They won again in 2019, cementing their name as the best brand where you can buy top-quality and cost-effective furniture and house items. Now under the umbrella of Shoprite Holdings Ltd, their ethos and mission statement have only grown stronger - to provide cost-effective products to the communities of South Africa.
